Snow expected to taper off by evening

Tuesday, December 9, 2008

Snowfall is expected to taper off by this evening but it’s going to be cold.

Alex Harrington, a meteorologist with KTKA, Channel 49, of Topeka, said most snowfall reports have been between one and three inches or less.

“In Emporia that snow will continue for the next couple of hours,” Harrington said. “One more band will pull through later this afternoon.”

The area also will be dealing with gusty winds overnight and the low temperature is expected to be 16.

By tomorrow sunny skies will return, Harrington said, and temperatures will return to at or above normal by the end of the week.

“This is really just a quick blast of winter,” he said. “Hang on, get through today and tonight and things will improve drastically by tomorrow.”

Road conditions across Kansas vary at this hour according to the Kansas Department of Transportation. In Lyon County, the roads are snowpacked and icy in spots.
