ESU volleyball ranked fifth in final poll
The final AVCA Division II Coaches poll in volleyball had Emporia State ranked fifth in the country.
The Hornets finished the season 34-4 and as the MIAA champion. They lost in the South Central regional championship against Truman to end their season.
Truman finished one spot ahead of Emporia State in the final poll. Grand Valley State was ranked third, Cal State San Bernardino second and national champion Concordia-St. Paul was ranked first.
Emporia Middle School A-team improves to 7-1
The Emporia Middle School seventh grade girls’ A-team won two games last week and the B-team went 1-1 against Ottawa and Manhattan-Eisenhower.
The Lady Vikings swept Ottawa on Tuesday, winning the A-game 36-3 and the B-game 22-9.
In the B-game, EMS led the entire game and came away with a 22-9 victory. The Lady Vikings were led in scoring by Audree Gosser with eight and Niena Ramirez added six point. Other players scoring were Chantal Gomez, Karen Meinholdt, and Seki Anderson.
Hastings led the A-team with 16 points in its 36-21 win on Thursday against Manhattan-Eisenhower. Amber Schaefer scored 12 points and Hastings also led the team with 11 rebounds with Schaefer and Kennedy Garza adding four each. In the B game, the Lady Vikings lost 17-12. The scoring was spread evenly among the team with Gomez, Kayla Ayer, Anderson, Meinholdt, Ramirez, and Audree Gosser each scoring two points. Gomez led the team in rebounding with eight while Meinholdt and Ramirez each added seven boards. Both teams will be back in action today at Shawnee Heights and at Seaman on Thursday.
