Greenwood County
The Eureka Herald Reported that Greenwood County received an E-911 wireless grant. The county has been awarded $81,847 in grant money to be used in 2009.
Learning Chinese
Students at Madison High School are taking Chinese II with high school students from several hundred miles away, though Interactive Distance Learning from the University of Kansas.
A live satellite feed at an MHS lab provides the class to Alleda McClelland and Victoria Dean, according to the Madison News.
A $70,000 Rural Utility Grant financed 90 percent of the lab cost.
Cottonwood Falls
A contra dance will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 at the Prairie Coffee Co. in downtown Cottonwood Falls. Lessons are held at 6:30 p.m. and the dance is at 7 p.m. Admission is $7 and students and seniors are $5. Children 12 and under are free. No experience is required for contra dancing. Burlington
The Coffey County Republican reported that a lighted Christmas parade will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 in downtown Burlington. This year’s theme is “Jingle All the Way.” All entries should have working lights. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first and second place winners in each of the three categories — personal, nonprofit and business.
A variety of entries is expected including walkers, bicycles, decorated vehicles, horses, floats and bands. No Santa Claus imitators are allowed in the parade as Santa Claus will appear at the end of the parade.
