EHS girls beat Olathe South 52-45
Saturday, December 6, 2008
The Emporia High girls basketball team held Olathe South to 32 percent shooting and withstood a late run, winning 52-45 in the final game of the Paul Terry Classic round-robin at White Auditorium.
Emporia led by as many as 16 before a late 13-2 run by the Falcons closed the gap to 48-45 with just over two minutes to go. But a Lindy Arndt layin on a dump-down lob from Armitage pushed the lead back to five, and free throws by Lexi Hileman and Amber Miller in the final minute gave EHS a three-score lead with 16.2 seconds left.
Point guard Alli Armitage led Emporia (2-0) with 18 points, knocking down five 3-pointers, and also dished out four assists and grabbed three rebounds. Arndt had 10 points, and Hileman and Rachelle VanGundy each had nine, with VanGundy pulling down a team-high seven rebounds.
