MIAA player of the year Ting Liu continues to add to her list of accomplishments this season. The ESU sophomore setter has been named a first-team AVCA All-American, and junior outside hitter Arica Shepard made the third team.
Liu finished the season with 1,534 assists and averaged 12.17 assists per set. She also made the South Central regional All-Tournament team and the MIAA first team.
Shepard, who also made the All-Tournament and All-MIAA teams, finished her junior season with 473 kills, averaging 3.75 kills per set.
Liu was joined on the first team by Washburn’s Monica Miesner and Pittsburg State’s Linda Inbigigie.
Autograph day
The Emporia State men and women will be signing autographs on Saturday during the double-header at White Auditorium against Missouri Western.
The ESU men will sign during halftime of the women’s game and the women will sign during halftime of the men’s game. The ESU women play at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
EMS loses two against Lawrence West
Brianna Knight’s double-double was not enough for Emporia Middle School to get past Lawrence West in the A-game on Thursday.
Knight scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds in the 44-33 loss. Lauren Miller added five points and five rebounds, and Paige Turney had four points and three rebounds. The A-team fell to 0-9 on the season.
The Emporia B-team lost 9-7. Bethany Bowman scored three points and Emily Giffin scored two points. The B-team is 2-7 on the season.
