Friends group formed to help City Band

A group of citizens met this week to formally establish a support group for the Emporia Municipal Band. The group expressed the desire to support and help raise funds to keep the band going. The band support from the City of Emporia was cut in half this year.
For the time being the organization will be called Friends of City Band (FOCB). Any funds they raise will be place in the Band’s account with the Emporia Community Foundation.
Their first scheduled activity will be to act as hosts and guides at the Band’s Christmas Concert which will be held at the Granada Theatre at 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 14th.
The concert is free but the band will be taking free will donations to help support next year’s summer concert series. The group also discussed the possibility of securing underwriters for each of the concerts as well as selling advertising on the weekly program.
