Art sale
The Fifth Annual Artist's Open House at Plumb Place, 224 E. Sixth Ave., is from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
A group of local artists will show and sell works including painting, glass, fiber, drawing, ceramics, iron sculpture, photography, jewelry and stained glass. There will be a silent auction with all proceeds going to Plumb Place. The event is open to the public and refreshments are provided. Admission is free, and there is plenty of parking.
Pancakes for supper
The Reading Lions Club is serving a pancake supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the basement of the United Methodist Church. The menu includes pancakes, biscuits, gravy, sausage juice and coffee. The price of the meal is by donation. There also will be a drawing for $100, $50 and $20. Tickets for the drawing are $1 each or six for $5. People do not need to be present to win. Proceeds from the meal will be used to provide Christmas treats for children in the community.
Congregational bazaar
The Congregational Women’s Fellowship of the First Congregational Church will have the Christmas Brunch and Bazaar from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The Christmas Brunch, $4 admission, features breakfast casseroles, muffins, coffee cakes, apple fritters, rolls, juice, coffee, tea and milk. The Bazaar booths include Bakery; Books, etc.; Candy Shoppe; Country Cupboard; Craft and Gift Corner; Jewelry; and Knick Knacks.
Arts and crafts sale
The Sacred Heart Catholic Church annual Altar Society Sale of Arts and Crafts will be held Saturday and Sunday in the Parish Hall. Homemade gifts and religious articles will be on sale. The Knights of Columbus will serve a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday.
Lutheran bazaar
St. Mark’s Lutheran Church will have the second annual Holiday Bazaar from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the Garden Room and the Parlor. The Men’s Group will serve a sausage gravy and biscuit breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m.
Clubhouse giveaway
The Social Service Club and others are sponsoring a chance to win “your very own clubhouse,” stated the news release. Tickets, $5 each, are available from a member of the Social Service Club or the other sponsors, Williams Automotive, Sutherlands, Bill Redeker Construction, Police Chief Michael Williams and Sheila Hodson-Williams with Countrywide Home Loans. Proceeds will be used for SSC projects, Coats for Kids, Toy Store, Necessity Baskets (for schools) and Baskets for Kids (for hospitalized children on holidays).
Pickets, T-shirts for playground
A limited number of fence pickets remain on sale for the Peter Pan Playground project. The pickets will be lettered with names of purchasers or their designees, and will be displayed around the new playground.
“It’d be an excellent Christmas gift,” said Mike Dorcey, who with Robin Nelson, led the community project to provide new equipment and another playground at the park.

Proceeds will be used to help defray maintenance costs at the playground.
