Still time for giving

Wednesday, December 3, 2008

WITH A sagging economy and shrinking stock portfolios, people may not feel like giving a donation to the United Way campaign this year.

But with the changes that have happened in our community over the last year, the services of United Way agencies are being utilized more than ever and the needs are great.

The United Way raises money for 22 social-service agencies in our community. Chances are most people either have been affected or know someone who has been affected by one of the United Way agencies. To see a complete list of United Way agencies see below.

The United Way only has four weeks to reach its goal of raising $600,000. So far, the organization has raised $426,532, which means it is still $173,000 short of its goal.

We know this is a busy time of year for everyone, but this is the season of giving and we hope people will consider giving to this important campaign.

Many of the agencies operate on shoestring budgets, so every dollar that can be raised for the organizations counts.

In previous years, our community has cared enough to reach its goal. We need to reach our goal again this year.

The final push is on, so donate now. To make a donation or to add to a previous donation, call the United Way today at 342-7564.
