It’s not too early to start thinking about designs for a snow sculpture contest sponsored by the Lee Beran Recreation Center staff.
Programs supervisor Adraina Holopirek said that the “Show Us Your Snowman” contest will run through the winter, with winners being announced the first week in April. This is the second year for the contest.
Individuals and groups are eligible to enter. Participants may enter one sculpture per group, Holopirek said; however, individuals may participate with more than one group.
“This is anyone’s chance to show off their artistic skills this winter,” she said.
Photos of entries may be brought to the Recreation Center, 313 W. Fourth Ave., or e-mailed to adraina10@hotmail.com.
Photos must be accompanied by the name, or names, of those who created the sculpture, as well as the address and telephone number of the contact person for the sculpture.
Last year’s prize-winning team was made up of Kelli Proehl and her two sons, Zachary and Tyler.
Entries will be judged by the rec center staff, with prize packages awarded to first- and second-place winners.
The winning sculpture will be posted on the center’s Web site, http://www.emporiarec.org/Emporia_Rec/HOME.html. The site also lists information about other programs offered at the center for adults and children.
