ESU volleyball team signs 5 new players

Emporia State volleyball coach Bing Xu announced the signing of five players on Tuesday, including four from Kansas and one from Nebraska.
The Hornets inked Jocelyn DeMotte, Nicole Gingery, Caitlyn Murray, Katelyn Schmidtberger and Meg Schwartz.
DeMotte is a 5-foot-5 defensive specialist from Hayden who made the first team All-Class 4A state tournament team. She helped lead Hayden to top-three finishes at state in all four years of her career, winning a state title as a junior.
Gingery is a 5-11 outside hitter from Lincoln East High School in Nebraska. She was a first-team All-State selection as a junior and honorable mention as a senior.
Murray is a 6-foot outside hitter from Great Bend. She was an honorable mention this season on the 5A All-State team and is second all-time at Great Bend High School with 927 kills. She set a single-season record in blocks with 162 as a senior.
Schmidtberger, a three-time first-team All-State selection, is a 5-10 setter/outside hitter from Sacred Heart High School in Salina. She had 340 kills, 261 assists, 77 blocks and set a school record with a .500 hitting percentage her senior year.
Schwartz is a 5-7 libero/defensive specialist from Salina Central High School. She made first team All-State the last two years and led her team in digs (394) and kills (218) this season.
