Invitation for parade-goers

As the Christmas Parade moves up Commercial Street tonight, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will continue its tradition of inviting parade-goers to warm up with hot cider and cookies. The church building, at Ninth Avenue and Commercial Street, will be open to provide a place to step inside out of the weather. The building’s bathrooms will also be available.

Planners wanted

Emporia’s Martin Luther King Committee is looking for anyone who wants to help plan the 2009 MLK ESU/Community celebration. The local theme is “Making the Dream a Reality.” The organization’s next meeting is from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday in the ESU Memorial Union KSTC room. For information, Barbara Baker at ESU, 341-1200 or Earl Williams, 481-9622.

Road Closing

Road 190 between Roads W and X is expected to be closed for about two weeks while Lyon County Road and Bridge crews replace a crossroad culvert. The road was closed today, when the project was scheduled to begin.
