The Emporia State athletic department will be accepting “cell phones for soldiers” at the gate of White Auditorium for the ESU women and men’s doubleheader against Northwest Missouri on Wednesday.
The cell phones will be recycled and all proceeds from the recycled phones will be used to send prepaid phone cards to U.S. soldiers stationed overseas. With the donation of a cell phone, fans will receive $1 off the admission price of a ticket for Wednesday’s game.
Last year against the Bearcats, the ESU men lost 91-83 in double overtime after an official improperly used a cell phone to time a replay on an apparent game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer for Emporia State. The use of the cell phone was in direct violation of NCAA rules.
Tip off for Wednesday’s MIAA opener against the Bearcats is at 5:30 p.m. for the women and 7:30 p.m. for the men.
