Emporia High forward Alex Guevara was named to the Class 5A All-State soccer first team on Monday, and fellow seniors Gary Rivera and Jose Rios were named to the All-State second team.
The honors were the last and highest in a slew of awards for the three players, who helped EHS to a 9-7-1 record and a trip to the regional championship game in coach Angel Cornejo’s first season. Guevara was named to the All-Centennial League first team last month, and Rivera and Rios, both midfielders, were each selected to the All-Centennial second team. All three players were chosen last month for first-team all-region selection by the Central Kansas Soccer Coaches Association.
In other season-end honors previously awarded to EHS players, senior defender Brian Tabares and senior forward Adam Sanchez were named to the CKSCA’s second team, and junior goalkeeper Cory Obermeyer earned a CKSCA honorable mention. Sanchez was selected as the TRYSA player of the year.
