Angel food orders being taken now

Limited quantities of Christmas dinner boxes will be part of the Angel Food distribution in December, according to information from the organization.

Angel Food boxes are available to anyone who wants to participate, with no restrictions on income.

The Christmas boxes, which will sell for $35 each, will include a 7-pound-average roasting hen, two pounds of smoked ham, two pounds of heat-and-serve mashed potatoes, two pounds of heat-and-serve corn, two pounds of heat-and-serve green beans, 17 ounces of cornbread dressing, brown gravy mix, 15 ounces of cranberry sauce, eight dinner rolls and one dessert item.

Standard boxes will include 1.5 pounds of choice-cut beef roast, two pounds of breaded chicken tenders, two pounds of chicken breasts, 1.5 pounds of pork chops, 1 pound 80 lean beef patties, 28 ounces of Salisbury steak entree, one pound all-meat hot dogs, one pound of carrots, one pound of green beans, one pound of rice, 24 oz. steak-cut fries, two pounds dried milk, 7.5 oz. macaroni and cheese, 14-oz. chicken broth, corn muffin mix, one dozen eggs, and one dessert item. Each box costs $30, tax included.

Senior convenience boxes, at $28 each, include 10 seasoned, nutritionally balanced, fully cooked meals to heat and serve. The meals are developed for senior citizens’ nutrition needs, according to information from Angel Food Ministries.

Entrees for each box will include barbecued pulled pork, ground beef stroganoff, chicken parmesan, meat patties with country gravy and onions, meat loaf with brown herb gravy, sliced roast turkey, chicken and mushroom bake, chicken and broccoli, burger stew, red beans and ground beef over white rice.

Each senior meal also include one starch and two vegetables or fruits.

People who purchase any of the above boxes also are eligible to purchase bonus boxes of meats, fruits, vegetables and cheeses.

• Bonus box No. 1, at $22, contains a total of 6.5 pounds of grill meat, including prime rib steak, boneless pork roast, hamburger steaks and bratwurst with cheese.

• Bonus box No. 2, at $21, contains 4.5 pounds of meat, including New York strip steaks, bacon-wrapped beef filet, and bacon-wrapped chicken filet.

• Bonus box No. 3, at $21, contains 10 pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breasts.

• Bonus box No. 4, at $21, contains almost 20 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables.

• Bonus box No. 5, at $26, is a holiday mixed-fruit gift box that includes an assortment of varieties of apples, oranges, tangerines, tangelos, juice oranges and grapefruits plus a recipe sheet.

• Bonus box No. 6, at $20, is a box of summer sausage and beef summer sausage, sharp and mild cheddar cheese, and Monterey jack cheese.

Orders will be taken on these days and times:

• Grace United Methodist Church, 2 Neosho St.: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

F United Presbyterian Church, 802 Commercial St.: 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

F Americus Presbyterian Church: 1 to 6 p.m. Friday.

F Emporia Church of the Nazarene, 2931 W. 24th Ave.: Call the church at 342-2858 for dates and times.

Distribution will be on Saturday, Dec. 20. Check with churches for specific times and places. Orders not picked up at the designated times will be donated to charities.

Participants need to bring large empty boxes to exchange for boxes of groceries. Payments must be made at time of ordering, by cash, money order or Vision card. No checks are accepted.
