Murphy & Houchins
Regina Murphy and Andrew Houchins spent the holiday in Cabot, Ark., visiting Regina’s family. About 15 family members gathered for a traditional meal, from sweet gherkins all the way through to chocolate pie. Those who could still move engaged in several games of Wii.
Later that evening, a visit was paid to Regina’s late mother’s family for chili. The rest of the holiday was spent helping Regina’s father clean out the attic and eating fried fish with hushpuppies.
Callaway
Georgia and Florida were the chosen destinations of Emporian Kat Callaway. She took off on Wednesday on a plane then returned on Sunday. She spent part of her time in Georgia and part of her time in Tallahassee, Fla., as well as some time basking on Florida beaches. She spent the holiday with her best friend Heather and Heather’s boyfriend and the rest of their unique characters that make up her family including Penny and Madusa, Heather’s new kittens.
Chocolate is a must over the holiday — as long as there is chocolate, nobody gets hurt. Special events included birthday celebrations, Thanksgiving celebration and a trip to Macy’s for the annual lighting of the Christmas tree. A solid battle of Uno then ensued. Every second in-between was spent between best friends catching up and eating chocolate.
Horsts
Mike and Nancy Horst of Elmdale spent the holiday weekend eating with both sides of their families, though they’re anticipating that a visit from two little girls will provide more pleasure than any of the food.
“The real treat for the weekend will be a three-day visit by granddaughters Hannah and Finley, who will be accompanied by their parents, Ryan and Jennifer Harjo of Wichita,” Nancy Horst said.
The Horsts spent Thursday in Strong City at a family dinner hosted by Mike’s mother, MaryAnn McCallum; on Saturday, they ate with the Gibb family at the home of Nancy’s brother and sister-in-law, Doug Gibb and Connie Fortner of Lenexa.
Schmidts
Chris and Jenny Schmidt of Olpe, along with their two sons, Ryker and Damon celebrated Thanksgiving with all their family. They began their day with a noon meal with Chris’s family and ended the day with an evening supper with Jenny’s family. The big highlight of the day was watching the Dallas Cowboys game and celebrating Chris’s 40th birthday. The main excitement, however, was what would happen in the following two days — Chris, Jenny and their sons headed to Hays, where Chris and his Olpe Eagles team played for a state football title.
Wilsons
Brett and Angela Wilson and their daughter, Teghan, spent the Thanksgiving holiday at Disney World in Orlando, Fla. They had dinner with the Disney princesses and lots of “fun, fun, fun!” Teghan’s grandmother, Marianne Dixon, and great-aunt, Judy Price, had dinner at Dixon’s home, where she had special appetizers of asparagus, ham and cheese wrapped in croissants, turkey, stuffing, sweet potato salad along with wine and olives brought by Judy. Dessert was chocolate from the Sweet Granada. Marianne and Judy also talked to their brother and sister-in-law, who live in Palm City, Fla. Later, the sisters visited Helen Price at the Holiday Resort.
