Emporia Sen. Jim Barnett has picked up the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Business. The group represents small businesses in Kansas.
“Sen. Barnett knows that small business is the engine that drives Kansas’ economy,” said Derrick Sontag, NFIB/Kansas state director, “and he has worked to provide the tools small business owners need.”
Barnett, a Republican senator, is seeking his third term in the Kansas Senate. He faces Democratic challenger Kitty Frank of Allen in the November general election.

Jim Barnett has come a long way. I watched his career from School Board to the Senate and was not, frankly, very impressed with him early on. Even his first few years in the senate were less than stellar. In fact, I voted against him in the 2004 Republican primary. But I have to say that I now regard him to be one of the best in that august body. Just as America made a mistake in turning down Bob Dole's 1996 presidential candidacy (Dole also came along way from his early senate days after his 1968 election), we Kansans made a grave error in not electing him governor in 2006. I hope that he will again run for higher office and that next time we appreciate what this good man has to offer.
