Distinguished agency
Louise Schutter, an American Family Insurance agent in Emporia, has been recognized for customer-satisfaction excellence under the J.D. Power & Associates Distinguished Insurance Agency Program.
Schutter has been an agent for American Family since 1991. Her office is at 907 Commercial St.
The J.D. Power designation is determined through a two-part evaluation process conducted by that company. The first part is a customer-satisfaction survey. Only agencies that score in the top 20 percent nationwide proceed to the second step, an on-site evaluation by Power. The evaluation includes the agencies’ reviews of customer insurance needs, claims handling, the quality of customer contacts, responsiveness and office environment.
In Leader’s Council
Janie E. Theel of Woodbury Financial Services in Emporia, has earned membership in the PLANCO 2008 Leader’s Council. PLANCO is a subsidiary of The Hartford.
Membership in the Leader’s Council recognizes those representatives who achieve an extraordinary level of annuity sales in the calendar year.
Named interim dean
Michael Morehead, a former administrator at Emporia State University, has been appointed interim dean of the new Mexico State University College of Education. The appointment began Aug. 1 when Dean Robert Moulton began an appointment as interim executive vice president and provost.
Morehead served as interim dean previously in 1999-2000.
Part of his job in his new position will be to work toward the college’s reaccreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the professional accrediting organization for schools, colleges and departments of education.
Chamber ribbon cutting
The Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and the Convention & Visitors Bureau will be the hosts for a ribbon cutting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at The help Desk, 717 Commercial St.
Bobby Thompson, owner of The Help Desk, said the business’ purpose is to offer a full range of computer support and services.
“Our main focus ... is to simplify the computer and network experience for our clients, both residential and small business” he said. “We offer network services including residential and small business network installation, support and troubleshooting.
“We also offer home pickup and delivery for your PC servicing.”
The retail section of the business sells computer components, accessories and novelty items.
Kansas beer
The Tallgrass Brewing Co. of Manhattan is beginning to bottle its Tallgrass Ale and Tallgrass Wheat beers for sale in retail liquor stores. The craft brewery will also sell kegs.
The brewery was founded in 2006 by Jeff and Tricia Gill.
