ORGANIZERS and participants of the Walk to Defeat ALS. The event raised $14,400 and Ferrell Gas of Kansas City will match that amount to make the total amount $28,000.
• Country Mart and Price Chopper, which donated school supplies to Emporias elementary schools.
• Pat Ford, who retired from Emporia ‘s Police Department. He served the community for 30 years.
• Pizza Ranch, which is building a restaurant in Emporia. The restaurant will be on West 18th Avenue and should be open by December.
• Aaron Goza, who was promoted from staff sergeant to sergeant first class. Goza is a combat medic serving with the Kansas Army National Guard.
• The 23 Emporians chosen for the new class of Leadership Emporia.
• Bret Wise, who has returned to Emporia to practice optometry. He will work at the office of optometrist Patricia Dorsey. • Cory Haag, who plans to build a new building in downtown Emporia that will combine apartments and retail space. The building will be at 726 Commercial St.

Chris, my man;
Doesn't the fellow who built the cage in the back of his truck to keep his dogs from running at large in town, even get a pat on the back, for protecting us all from being run over by dogs while we are out and about. That seems like an honorable thing to do. Say, how did that all turn out anyway? I haven't read much in the Gazette about that lately. Wasn't he suposed to go to court about that?
