Church worker retires
A retirement party will be given at 6 p.m. Sunday for Wanda Lee Moore at the Cornerston Baptist Church, 315 S. Commercial St., where she has been a member, secretary and bookkeeper for 13 years. She retires on Sunday. Friends and family are invited to attend.
Firefighters raise funds
The Marion County Volunteer Firefighters will hold their annual fundraiser, for a training site, beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Marion County Lake. Games for all ages and other activities begin at 1 p.m.; a meal of pulled pork will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. Entertainment will be by country music performer Candy Coburn. The opening act at 6 p.m. will be by a local band, “Justus.” Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the show or save $5 with Emergency Services or military identification. Foster care classes
The Kansas Children’s Service League, 402 Commercial St., Suite 123, will be host for a foster family training program beginning Sept. 8 to prepare and approve families for foster care and/or adoption. According to the news release, there are more than 200 children in the area who need foster families. More foster parents are needed in Lyon County and the surrounding area.
