Kansas State Rep. Peggy Mast, R-Emporia, has been appointed to the 2008 Special Committee on Judiciary. And Tom Moxley, R-Council Grove, will sit on a special committee dealing with eminent domain.
The appointments were announced Wednesday by Speaker of the House Melvin Neufeld, R-Ingalls.
The nine-member special judiciary committee will meet for two days before the next session to review and study the Kansas Open Records Act, benefits for law enforcement officers killed or injured in the line of duty, victim of identity theft and the foster care system, Neufeld said in a news release. The special committee must submit a report of its recommendations on these issues to the 2009 Legislature.
Mast represents the 76th District, which includes parts of Lyon, Coffey and Greenwood counties. She serves as the Vice-Chair for both the House Health and Human Services and House Social Services Budget Committees and on the House Energy and Utilities Committee and the Joint Committee on Legislative Post Audit.
Joining Mast from the House of Representatives on the judiciary committee are Mike O’Neal, R-Hutchinson; Joe Patton, R-Topeka; and Vern Swanson, R-Clay Center.
Moxley will serve on the 2008 Special Committee on the use of Eminent Domain in Condemnation of Water Rights with Reps. Rocky Fund, R-Hoyt; Dan Johnson, R-Hays, and Forrest Knox, R-Altoona.
