Tornado siren repairs
Two more tornado sirens in Emporia are not working, authorities discovered Wednesday.
During the weekly testing of the emergency alert system, which includes sounding the sirens throughout Emporia, the sirens at Walnut Elementary School and Dryer Park did not work, according to Deputy Police Chief Mike Williams.
Repairs are slated for this week, and some testing of those sirens may occur. A third siren, by Dillon’s on East 12th Avenue, remains out of service because of a lightning strike. The repair service is waiting for parts for that siren.
