Poker run will benefit Tech College foundation

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

On Oct. 11, the FHTC Foundation will be sponsoring its first benefit poker run, “Run for the Money.”

The poker run will start and finish at the Flint Hills Technical College in Emporia with stops at Bobby D’s Lakeside at Lake Wabaunsee, the Dairy Queen at Council Grove and the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve. Participants will try to finish with the best poker hand after the completion of the run.

Motorcycles, classic cars and antique cars are welcome to join in the fun to raise money to support the mission of the FHTC Foundation: assisting students through scholarships and to support the mission of the college by enhancing educational opportunities that lead to employment and continuous learning.

The $20 registration fee includes a T-shirt, one poker hand, an entry in the 50-50 cash drawing and meal. Additional passengers are $10 and extra poker hands are $5. There will be lots of opportunities to win, including cash prizes awarded for the top three poker hands, door prizes for the participants and a 50-50 cash drawing.

Before the poker run, volunteers will be selling a limited number of tickets for $10 to win either a $1,000 prepaid gas card or a $500 prepaid gas card. Sponsorships are available as well for individuals and businesses. Sponsors will be identified on the back of the “Run for the Money” T-shirts.

“This will be a fun event for all involved. Even though there are several chances for participants to win, the students of FHTC will be the real winners,” said Jodi Heermann, Executive Director of Advancement. “All the proceeds from the poker run will support the efforts of the FHTC Foundation. The foundation is committed to providing opportunities for our students to succeed in their educational career. With record enrollment again this year, ongoing resources are necessary for the foundation to fulfill its mission to those students.”

Pre-registration is encouraged by Oct. 6. For best T-shirt sizing, register by Sept. 26. Registration forms and additional information are available at http://www.fhtc.edu/Student-Services/FHTC-Foundation.aspx, http://www.fhtc.edu/Student-Services/FHTC-Foundation.aspx, or by calling Heermann at (620) 341-1313.
