Maintain ditches

The city of Emporia should do more inspecting of the drainage ditches than they have. I live by one and this rain we got last week flooded me. I had to tear out carpets in my basement and dry everything out. My yard was washed away in the front and back.
The city likes to spend money so well, why don’t they do something about things like this?
If I was a big name from Emporia, it would get fixed. I’m just a nobody!

Keep trying, Becky. Call and pester the street dept. etc. We live in the county and had a drainage pipe some bright road grader had buried. I guess the two striped signs weren't a big enough clue that there was a pipe there. Anyway, we had the road flooding and water cutting the road. After several calls we found the right person and wow, they came out and replaced it. We were surprised since they did such an excellent job that you could hardly tell they dug on the road. Good luck. I know drainage is a big problem in Emporia. Has been for the 18 years I've been here anyway. You can about waterski on some of the streets after a good deluge.

What gets me is the flower bush growing out of the storm drain at the end of 12th & Garfield. Its no wonder they flood with that kind of crud blocking them.
