Mentors needed

Volunteers are needed for the LNIS MASTER Program (Mentors and Students Together Embracing Reading). According to the news release, the MASTER Program “is a structured mentoring reading program for 6th grade students. It is designed to provide students with the opportunity to improve their reading, vocabulary and comprehension skills by pairing students with dedicated mentors willing to commit to reading one-on-one with a student for 45 minutes a day. All mentors will attend a 30-minute orientation session prior to being paired with a student. The mentor will assist the student with word pronunciation, as well as word and story comprehension and retell. The mentor also helps instill and reinforce confidence in the student as he or she reads. If interested, call Lorie Rogan, MASTER program coordinator at Lowther North 6th grade, at 341-2350 or lrogan@usd253.org.
