SRS open house
The Emporia SRS Service Center, 1701 Wheeler St., will be host for the fourth annual “Get to Know Your SRS” from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. The open house will include tours of the building, program information booths and packets, an opportunity to meet SRS staff and a 20-minute DVD providing an overview of SRS which will be played throughout the morning. Refreshments will be served.
Homework help
Parents of school age children are invited to attend a free class about how to help children with homework. This free class will focus on Internet resources such as Homework Kansas, an after-school tutoring service that connects Kansas students one-on-one with live tutors. Homework Kansas is for students in kindergarten through 12th grade and also those taking college introductory courses. It provides help in mathematics, science, social studies and English. Additional Internet sites useful for homework assistance will be discussed.
Classes are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday or Thursday at the Flint Hills Technical College Library. Basic computer literacy is required. Registration is requested by calling the Emporia Public Library at 340-6462. Sponsors are the public and school libraries in the Emporia area.
