According to what I have read, Red Lobster and Olive Gardens say that our population is too small.
I'm like you, I can't imagine spending nearly a million dollars to bring in yet another pizza joint. Of course, if data is being kept, and I'm sure that it is, I can only guess that the average household consumption of pizza in Emporia, Kansas must be pretty high. Hello? What choice do we have? What would happen if nobody in Emporia ate pizza for one whole month?

I don't think it would matter what the New Business would be, Emporia still has it's Pessimists. Any New Business is better than No New Business. If it's a pizza place, super, I like pizza!
I would think most can find Something to their taste here, I mean we only have at least 50 to 60 places to go.

Those of you wanting an Olive Garden are not wanting much. My wife and I broke down and ate at one the other night and I found it very expensive and only mediocre, at best for quality. There are much better places to eat and we will not return to the Olive Garden. We just sold our house and moved to Springfield, Mo. We are so excited about all the many shopping, dining and entertainment choices here. Missouri is a much less expensive state to live in than Kansas. If I never step foot in Kansas again; I shall die a happy man!

Some of the better places to try and attract for eating establishments would be: Backyard Burgers--I shall never eat at Wendy's, McD's or Burger King again. The Rib Crib--Excellent BBQ, Ryan's or get Golden Corral or Western Sizzlin' back in town. Target and K-Mart are no competition to WalMart; go to Wichita and you will find they carry the same stock but are higher on their prices than WalMart. Lowes and Home Depot would not create any competition to Sutherlands as they all carry the same stock at the same prices. Emporia should focus on more industry and the other businesses will follow. The biggest hurdle for everyone is to ride out this ecenomic downturn and survive it in one piece; while mapping out a plan to prosper and grow once the economy turns around. If Obama is elected, we all need to buckle our seat belts and hope we survive the ride ahead.

Charlie, We do have a Golden Corral just south of Wal Mart. I went there on Saturday for a great meal. Good seafood too, Monday through Friday evenings.

I think your wrong there, they may have the same stock and prices but you can be darn sure the help at Sutherlands would have to improve a lot in order to get my business. I would drive to topeka now just to avoid sutherlands because "most" of the employees there are worthless, either they dont like to help or are not smart enough about their products to help. JMO
