Bye-bye, rail car
Emporia’s rail-car restaurant that sits on Commercial Street is headed to Salina, Okla., where it will be located on a bluff and turned into a steak house.
Bill and Christine Painter of Salina won the online auction to buy the car for $9,300. Salina is about 50 miles west of Tulsa, Okla. The rail car will be moved to Salina and placed on a bluff overlooking the water at Lake Hudson, Bill Painter said. Painter said the couple hadn’t planned on a restaurant until his wife saw the train car on the auction site. Christine Painter immediately searched for a property on Lake Hudson for the rail car. The restaurant should be open by the first of the year. Bill Painter said the couple will have the train moved from Eighth Avenue and Commercial Street the first week in October.
