Open house
The First United Methodist Church will have a Community Open House from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church, with food and fun for people of all ages. Lunch will include hot dogs, chips and more. Carnival games for the children will be held in the upstairs classrooms, along with activities in the youth recreation room downstairs. There will be acoustic music with coffee and dessert in the Cornerstone Café; the Solid Rock Praise Band will play in Fellowship Hall. Tours will be given of the newly remodeled nursery, children’s and youth rooms and the Friends Together Preschool.
Democrats meet
The Lyon County Democrats meet from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Best Western Motel, 2031 W. Highway 50. The program will include a report about the picnic and fair booth, fall campaign plans by local candidates, announcement of county headquarters (location and schedule). Class reunion
The Emporia High School class of 1953 will hold the 55th class reunion, beginning at 4 p.m. on Aug. 30 at the Emporia Country Club. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Call Mary Ann Law at 342-6980 or Winky Bush at 342-8299.
