Parents of the late Beau Arndt filed a wrongful death suit on Tuesday, less than 30 minutes before the man convicted of their son’s death was sentenced to serve 32 months in prison.
The suit, prepared by attorney Monte L. Miller on behalf of Christine and Robert Arndt, accuses Theron Thomas Kent of Topeka of negligence and wanton conduct in connection with Beau Arndt’s death.
Kent had been convicted of involuntary manslaughter on June 30, after a jury trial in Lyon County District Court.
Details from the civil suit will be published in The Gazette later today.

Dear Arndt Family,
I support this move wholeheartedly. Your son's loss has deeply affected this community, including my daughter and son-in-law. They miss him and talk about about him almost daily. Your family has demonstrated how to be strong in the face of such a tragedy. I believe the people of this community will continue to support you through this time.

My heart goes out to the Arndt family. I can't even imagine the pain of losing a child. And in such a senseless manner must make it worse. I can only hope this will wake some people up and make them more careful. If just one life is saved it would be a tribute to the young man who by all accounts was a model sportsman.

Let's try to keep it civil, folks. As Judge Wheeler said in court, both families involved are suffering.
