Rain contributes to Saturday accidents

Monday, August 11, 2008

Wet pavements apparently precipitated two accidents, causing several injuries on Saturday on the Kansas Turnpike near Emporia.

At approximately 8:06 a.m., a 2004 Chrysler convertible, driven by Mark S. Seaman, 52, of Wichita, hydroplaned and went off the roadway, striking a post before it went into a ditch.

Seaman, who was wearing a safety restraint, received injuries and was transported for treatment.

Leroy Thomas Denooyer, 32, and Skyler Denooyer, 7, both of Phoenix, were taken by ambulance for treatment after their vehicle hydroplaned on the wet pavement and struck the median wall about 11 1/2 miles north of the Emporia interchange. The accident was reported at 2:55 p.m.

A passenger in the Denooyer vehicle, Joy Harris, 47, was not injured.

Harris and both Denooyers were wearing safety restraints, according to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Newman Regional Health did not have record of any of the injured parties, according to a hospital spokesman.

Emporia ambulance personnel also were called to Milepost 106 of the turnpike about 5:13 p.m. Saturday.

Emergency medical technicians tended one patient, who was not transported.

Information on that accident was not available.
