This weekend the Jones Aquatic Center will go to the dogs in the annual Pooch Plunge at the pool.
The plunge will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The event is sponsored by the Emporia Recreation Commission and proceeds go to the H. Dale Buck Animal Welfare Fund. There are several activities at the plunge including pooch portraits by Dave Stormont, nail trimming by Top Dog Salon, photo contest by the Buck Fund, talent contests, prizes and giveaways and, of course, the dog swim. The cost of the event is $7 in advance and $10 the day of the event.
There is a new event this year — The HomeAgain Microchipping event. The Buck Fund, Emporia Recreation Commission, Emporia Veterinary Hospital and Dorsey Animal Clinic are sponsoring the clinic, which offers discount microchips to animals. Only 50 appointments are available and appointments are recommended.. Appointments are available from 4 to 6 p.m. Pets will be microchipped and registered in a national recovery service database. The cost is $25 per pet.
Call (620) 343-3377 or e-mail buckfund@cableone.net for details and an appointment.
