The Emporia Aquatic Club had one swimmer compete in each of two recent championship meets for U.S. Swimming’s Missouri Valley region.
Maggie Hatfield, 9, raced in eight events at the Division I championship meet Aug. 1-3 in Lenexa. She took 1st place in the 200-meter freestyle (2:42.68) and the 50 backstroke (39.54). She also finished third in the 100 backstroke (1:31.28) and the 100 free (1:15.40) and fifth in the 50 free (33.79). In the 50 free and 50 back events, Maggie qualified to compete in the Zone Championship meet, which began in Indianapolis on Wednesday and ends Sunday.
Jordan Metz, 10, competed in the Division II meet on July 25 and 26 in Derby. Jordan raced in nine events and placed in the top five in three of them: Second place in the 200 individual medley (3:39.69), third place in the 50 freestyle (40.36) and fourth place in the 200 freestyle (3:16.93).
