Lyon County commissioners had a light agenda this morning during their weekly study session.
During the meeting, commissioners discussed ADA compliance with the door entrances at the Lyon County Extension Office, across from the Lyon County Fairgrounds. Mark McKenna, of Lyon County facilities management, said Emporia Construction was contacted and asked for quotes to correct concrete entryways to make the entryways ADA compliant.
“How was this missed on the original (remodel) contract,” Marc Goodman, Lyon County counselor, asked.
McKenna said he didn’t have a good answer. He said the inside of the building, which was recently remodeled, is compliant.
“There wasn’t much exterior work in the original building remodel,” McKenna said.
McKenna said the work that needs to be done on the outside is only the concrete — not the actual doors.
“I think people are under the impression that we’re re-doing doors,” he said. “It’s important (for people to know) that we’re re-doing concrete work outside the building.”’
Commissioners are set to address the issue during Thursday’s action session.
