Sixty-four people will be chosen to compete for a $1,000 first prize as part of a speed-texting competition co-sponsored by the Kansas State Fair and U.S. Cellular, according to a news release from U.S. Cellular spokesperson Kim Furlow.
Prospective contestants must pre-register at the U.S. Cellular booth at the fair in Hutchinson by 3 p.m. Sept. 13. Contestants selected will be notified by telephone.
Furlow said that the company will provide cell phones for the competition.
“The object of the text messaging contest is to be the first in each round to text a phrase exactly as it appears, with no abbreviations, to the judges’ phones,” she said.
In addition to the $1,000 first prize, $250 and two tickets to the Corbin Bleu concert will be given for second place.
The competition will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, at Lake Talbott Stage on the fairgrounds. In case of inclement weather, the event will move to Hansen Auditorium in the Encampment Building, Furlow said.
More information about the contest and its rules may be seen on the www.kansasstatefair.com Web site.
