Angel Food Ministries sites in Lyon County will be accepting orders for boxes of food beginning Thursday.
Each box of food contains an estimated $65 to $75 worth of food for $30, including sales tax. No applications or income requirements are required, and quantities of boxes that can be ordered are unlimited. No checks will be accepted, but money orders, cash, and Vision cards can be used. Buyers each need to bring a large box on pick-up day, Aug. 23; boxes are not provided. Any food not picked up at the designated times and places will be donated to people in need.
For August, each box will contain: four ribeye steaks, 5 lb. chicken leg quarters, 28 oz. chicken breast nuggets, 28 oz. salisbury steak dinner entree, 2 lb. breaded chicken breast filets, 12 oz. smoked sausage, 1 lb. California blend frozen vegetables, 1 lb. frozen carrots, 1 lb. frozen chopped spinach, 10 frozen waffles, 1 lb. bean soup mix, 1 lb. rice, 9 oz. instant potatoes (14 servings), 15 oz. sliced peaches, 2 lb. Borden shelf-stable milk, one dozen eggs and one dessert item.
With the purchase of one or more regular boxes, buyers also may purchase one or more of the bonuses boxes for the month. The boxes, their contents and their costs are: 7-lb. family assorted grill box, including sirloin filet, boneless skinless chicken breast, St. Louis-style ribs, and hamburger patties, $20; 4.5-lb. steak and meat combo including New York strip steaks, bacon-wrapped beef filet, and bacon-wrapped pork filet, $20; 4.5-lb. stuffed chicken breast combo, including cordon bleu, broccoli cheese, and chicken Kiev, $18; fresh fruit and vegetable box, including red Delicious apples, oranges, head of lettuce, cabbage, russet potatoes, cucumbers, cantaloupe and honeydew melon.
Orders will be taken at these churches during the following times:
• Emporia Church of the Nazarene, 2931 W. 24th Ave.: Thursday, Aug. 7, 2 to 6 p.m.; Friday, Aug. 8 and Saturday, Aug. 9, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Grace United Methodist Church, 2 Neosho St.: Thursday, Aug. 7, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Friday, Aug. 8, 2 to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, Aug. 9, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Emporia Presbyterian Church, 802 Commercial St.: Thursday, Aug. 7, 2 to 4 p.m.; Friday, Aug. 8, 4 to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, Aug. 9, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Americus Presbyterian Church, Americus: Friday, Aug. 8, 1 to 6 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 9, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
