Bulldogs' baseball team also takes pair of games from Canton-Galva

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

The Chase County softball team swept two games from Canton-Galva on the road Tuesday night, winning Game One, 11-1, before taking a 23-3 victory in the second game.

In Game One, Chase County got another strong effort from starter Taylor Rains, who went all five innings with six strikeouts and no walks while allowing just two hits to lower her season ERA to 0.38.

Chase County scored three runs in each of the first, fourth and fifth innings and added a pair of runs in the second to win going away.

In Game Two, Chase County’s offense exploded, as the Lady Bulldogs began the game with a single run in the first before plating eight in the second to take a 9-0 lead.

Chase County put the game away with a 10-run fifth.

Briana Talkington took the win in the circle, recording five strikeouts and no walks.

For the two-game series, Rains went 7-for-7 at the plate with a triple, nine RBI and three runs scored. Breanne Davis went 5-for-5 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored, and Aubry Watts went 4-for-6 with four runs scored.

Chase County is now 12-2 on the season and is back in action on Friday with a home doubleheader against Inman.

Bulldogs take 2 games from Canton-Galva

The Chase County baseball team continued its roll this season with a two-game road sweep over Canton-Galva on Tuesday night, as the Bulldogs won 5-3 in Game One before earning an 11-1 run-rule victory in the nightcap.

Game One was highlighted by the pitching effort of CCHS starter Greg Davis, who went 6 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts and no walks while allowing just one Canton-Galva baserunner through six innings.

Meanwhile, Chase County scored two runs in the first and then plated another run in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Shawn Talkington then put the Bulldogs ahead 4-0 in the fourth with a solo home run to left.

Canton-Galva did break through in the bottom of the sixth with three runs to pull to within 4-3. After Chase County’s Brian Palermo hit a triple and then scored on an error in the seventh to put CCHS up, 5-3, Canton-Galva had two on with two out against Davis, which brought on Talkington in relief.

After Talkington walked the first batter to load the bases, he struck out the next batter to end the game and record the save.

Palermo led the CCHS offense in Game One, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Talkington and Cole Starkey each went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

In Game Two, Talkington took to the mound as the starter and shut down the Canton-Galva bats, allowing just one hit in the complete-game effort to go with seven strikeouts and three walks.

CCHS got all the scoring it would need with a four-run third, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Starkey and an RBI triple by Palermo.

The Bulldogs, leading 4-1, ended it in the fifth with an eight-run outing on three hits, three Canton-Galva errors and four walks.

John Lang went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI in Game Two.

Chase County is now 13-1 and will take on Inman at home on Friday.
