Emporia State’s Michelle Stueve was one of four players released by the WNBA’s Washington Mystics, the team’s Web site announced on Monday.
Stueve, who was a consensus Division-II All-American this season for the Lady Hornets, was invited to the Mystics’ training camp earlier this month by the team’s general manager, Linda Hargrove.
After working out an entire week in Washington, D.C., Stueve was cut on Monday along with Meg Bolger, Danielle Hutcheson and Rita Williams.

The Emporia Energy U-12 softball team split a doubleheader against the Council Grove Down and Dirty in a preseason scrimmage on Sunday afternoon.
The Energy won the first game, 15-2, before dropping the second game, 4-3.
The Energy relied on its offense in the first game, scoring 15 runs on 15 hits. Katie Weiser led the way, scoring three runs with a double in the first inning and a triple in the third inning.
Ashley Jackson, Emily Giffin, Amanda Crone, Kate Decker, and Taryn McCoy each scored twice, while Paige Turney and Alix Boulanger added a run apiece.
Giffin pitched in Game One and recorded eight strikeouts while walking three.
Amanda Crone was in the pitching circle for Game Two. While there, she struck out seven and walked five Council Grove batters.
The Down and Dirty defense silenced the Energy’s bats in Game Two, allowing just three runs on two hits.

That's okay, Michelle, you come on home and finish your studies. You're a terrific, talented and highly intelligent young lady on top of being a first-class athlete. Had you not gone to Washington, you'd have always wondered. One thing for sure, Emporia State's basketball program was greatly enhanced by your presence.
