A two-hour “Zumba-thon” is planned Saturday to raise money for the Keri Wilkie Breast Cancer Medical Fund.
Wilkie, 26, has undergone surgery and soon will begin chemotherapy.
The fundraiser will be held at Emporia Fitness Center, 2812 W. 12th Ave., from 1 to 3 p.m.
The cost will be a $15 donation to the fund, which will be collected at the door, according to organizers of the event. Sponsorships also may be done by collecting donations from friends, family, co-workers, “and anyone who wants to make you sweat,” according to information from Irina Cortinas and Amy Hayden.
Cortinas and Wilkie are co-workers at Emporia Physical Therapy, 1024 W. 12th Ave.; Hayden is zumba instructor at Emporia Fitness.
Sponsorship forms are available at Emporia Fitness.
All sponsorship money needs to be collected before the event, and checks should be made to “Keri Wilkie Breast Cancer Medical Fund.” The fund is not tax-deductible.
Prizes will be awarded to the top two sponsored Zumba-thon participants. A raffle is planned, with items donated by Sears, Four Seasons, Mary Kay, Tranquility Day Spa, Flinthills Mall, Sweet Granada, Changes Hair Salon, High Gear, NAPA, Town Crier, The Sports Fan, Flinthills Martial Arts Center, Emporia Fitness, Jocks Nitch, Dryer’s, Riverside Flower Shop, and McDonald’s.
Sutherland’s built and donated a platform for the event, Coca-Cola Bottling of Emporia donated bottled water, and Residential Life donated energy bars for participants.
One hundred thirty Zumba-thon T-shirts, co-sponsored by Mike’s Sporting Goods, already have been sold. A sign-up sheet will be available at the event and, if interest is sufficient, additional shirts may be ordered, Hayden said.
More information may be had by calling Hayden at 343-3459, or e-mailing zumbawithamy@sbcglobal.net.
