Lonberger reaches provisional mark in 2 events

Monday, April 28, 2008

The Emporia State track and field team finished with four provisional qualifiers in Saturday’s Sooner Invitational in Norman, Okla.

“Like most teams we have been waiting to run in warmer weather,” ESU track and field coach Dave Harris said, “and I can't emphasize what a difference it makes for the sprinters.”

Kenton Lonberger had two of the provisionals, finishing second in the 100-meter dash (10.51 seconds) and third in the 200-meter run (21.37).

Jonel Rossbach took second in the 1,500-meter run — finishing only behind Czech junior national champion Eva Slavikova — with a time of 4:36.14.

The other provisional went to freshman Josh Honeycutt, who took third by leaping 48 feet, 11 3/4 inches in the triple jump.

Saturday’s competition was ESU’s final meet before this week’s MIAA Championships.
