Madison track and field squads take team titles at Hartford

Madison made a sweep of it at Monday’s Hartford Invitational, as the boys won the meet with 123 points and the girls easily took the team title with 162 points.

The Bulldogs came away with three individual titles: Matt Baysinger in the discus (125 feet, 3 inches), Henry Ott in the javelin (169-4) and Ben Dains in the pole vault (11-0). Madison also won the 4x100 and 4x800 relays.

Burlingame, which finished just three points behind Madison, had a pair of individual champions. Joel Bevitt won the high jump (6-0) and Cory Smart was best in the shot put (42-11).

The Bearcats’ other first-place showing came in the 4x400 relay.

Chisom Spencer contributed Marais des Cygnes Valley’s only boys championships, taking first in the triple jump (39-11 3/4) and long jump (20-10 1/4).

Hartford’s Aaron Thomsen also added two titles, winning the 1,600-meter run (4:54.70) and 800-meter run (2:11.28).

Lebo had the only other two area wins, as Blake Jones was first in the 110-meter hurdles (16.18 seconds) and Justin Schroeder took the championship in the 3,200-meter run (11:15.08).

The other top area finishers were: Hartford’s Cody Barrett in the 100-meter dash (second, 11.28); Burlingame’s James Clem in the 400-meter run (third, 57.8); Madison’s Wade Elwood in the 300-meter hurdles (second, 45.78); and Burlingame’s Chris Walker in the 200-meter run (second, 23.82).

In the team standings, Hartford was third (87 points) and MdCV was fourth (76). Lebo took sixth with 39 points.

On the girls side, Madison dominated the meet with seven individual titles.

Two each came from Ashley Martell and Adrian McCollum.

Martell won the high jump (4-8) and pole vault (7-6), while McCollum took first in the 1,600-meter run (6:40.68) and 3,200 (14:26.70).

Tera Titus added a discus championship (112-3), Shelby Buster was first in the javelin (108-6) and Jennifer Finch won the 300-meter hurdles (54.70).

Burlingame, which took third with 69 points, had two individual champions: Miranda Fagan in the shot put (34-11 1/2) and Andrea Billings in the 100-meter hurdles (17.68).

MdCV’s Jessica Schmidt had the only other area individual title, taking first in the 400-meter run (1:11.73). The MdCV 4x800 relay team also came in first.

Other top area finishers in their respective events were: MdCV’s Schmidt in the triple jump (second, 32-1 1/2); MdCV’s Sam Jacob in the long jump (second, 15-3 1/4); Burlingame’s Meghan Atchison in the 200-meter run (second, 29.15) and 100-meter dash (third, 13.75); Madison’s 4x100 relay team (third, 56.16); MdCV’s Emily Phelon (second, 2:58.38); and Burlingame’s 4x400 relay team (second, 4:50.41).

MdCV was fourth in the team standings with 65 points, while Lebo was fifth (55) and Hartford was seventh (46).
