Happy anniversary
The Rev. Michael L. Moore and his wife, Sister Iona V. Moore, will be honored Sunday on the 14th anniversary of their service as pastor and first lady of St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 730 Sylvan St. Officers and members of the church will be the hosts and the public is invited to attend.
The morning service, Youth Appreciation, is at 11 a.m. The Rev. Larry D. Williams, assistant to the pastor, will conduct the pulpit and give the sermon. The St. James Praise Team will give several selections and other members of the church youth group will have roles in the service.
At the 3:30 p.m. service, the Rev. Delmar White will deliver the sermon. Rev. White served as pastor of St. James for two years during the early 1990s. He is now pastor of the Ninth Street Missionary Baptist Church in Lawrence. The choir from the Ninth Street Church will sing during the service. Another special guest will be the Rev. Alfred White, pastor of the Community Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan.
Flood warning
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Cottonwood River near Emporia. The river was already a foot above flood stage Thursday evening and minor flooding remains possible through Saturday evening.
The weather service warns drivers to avoid driving into shallow water. Shallow water, if flowing swiftly, can wash a a car off the road and floodwater can undermine roads, causing them to collapse.
