Car show to raise money for students

Friday, April 25, 2008

The Emporia Brown Express Athletic Club and the Emporia State University Karate Club have teamed up to present the 11th annual Super Custom Car Show on Sunday.

A fiesta of family entertainment also is planned in conjunction with the show, which is open to the public at no charge. It will be held at the student recreation center north of the campus.

Funds raised by the event and a raffle will be donated to the ESU Hornet Academic Scholarship Fund and to Landon Dody, a local child who has cystic fibrosis.

Cars expected for the show will include antique, classic, Corvettes, street rods, hot rods, imports, trucks, “under construction,” low-riders, muscle cars and more, according to information from Gilbert Rodriguez, who is director for the show.

Vehicles may be registered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost will be $27 for cars and trucks, $22 for low-rider bikes, and $22 for miscellaneous vehicles. A total of $1,000 in prizes will be awarded.

Trophies in the vehicle categories will be given for first, second and third place and each participant will receive a free T-shirt.
