Greensburg photos
on display
The Ulrich Museum of Art art Wichita State University will feature a photo exhibition, “Greensburg After the Storm,” by Emporia artist and ESU professor Larry Schwarm, opening Saturday and and continuing through Aug. 10.
Schwarm, a native of Greensburg whose parents are still residents, is “the most renowned fine art photographer living in the state of Kansas,” said the news release. Schwarm received a call from his parents the night of the storm, checked on his family, helped relatives and neighbors sort through debris and began a series of photographs the morning after the tornado.
The release said he has returned repeatedly “to capture the stark reality of the surreal terrain that was once a town.”
Schwarm is well-known for his series of the annual burns in the Flint Hills. His book, “On Fire, Larry Schwarm,” won a national book award and he received, along with other awards, the Kansas Governor’s Artist Award in 2002.
His works are featured in museums across Kansas and the U.S., including the Smithsonian Institution, Art Institute of Chicago, Philadelphia Museum of Art and Milwaukee Art Museum.

Boyle’s plot brings two families into tragic collision while exposing core issues of class divides, problems of illegal Mexican immigration and environmental degradation in concentrated urban areas of California, said the news release.
“As the United States plans to build hundreds of miles of fence along the Mexican border, his novel has never been more timely.” Boyle’s Web site is www.tcboyle.com.
