Pool League

Championships Tonight

Tonight at Natasha’s Billiards & Lounge starting at 7 p.m., the Thursday night pool league tournament championships will be held. It will feature Natasha’s versus Sidetracks.

These same two teams finished tied for the regular season championship, with Natasha’s winning in a playoff match. Also, these two teams faced each other in last season’s championship, with Sidetracks winning.

Natasha’s team consists of Blake Morgan, Darren McBride, Russ Blackwell, Pete Crockett and Jeff Gore, all of which have played on a championship team (either Tuesday or Thursday leagues) in the past four years. This Natasha’s team has played in the championship match every year since Natasha’s opened, and has won every regular season championship as well.

The Sidetracks team is made up of Charlie Mahon, Jake Johnson, Larry Mechtley, Brandon Hopkins, Erren Harter, Rozie Fessler, Troy Dall, Brady Stephens and Bill Hopkins.

Also, any teams that have not picked up their season winnings will be able to pick them up during this match.

Beau Arndt Memorial Shooting Clays Shoot

Scott and Skylar Bond will host the Beau Arndt memorial sporting clays shoot to benefit Kansas Hunter Education programs at Locust Point Gun Club, near Pomona Lake on Sunday starting at 8 a.m. There will be prizes galore! A roasted hog and all the trimmings will be served for lunch.

Kansas Hunter

Education Class

A free Kansas Hunter Education Class will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, and from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, at Santa Fe Trail High School in Carbondale. Both class sessions must be attended in their entirety for certification.

Participants must be at least 11 years old by May 4 to be eligible for certification. The Santa Fe Trail Dance Team will have lunch and drinks available to purchase, or attendees can bring their own sack lunch on Saturday.

Emporia Basketball

Summer Camps

The Emporia High basketball program has seven summer programs taking place over the course of the next few months.

The Shooter Extreme Mini-Camp takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. from May 28-30. Cost is $40, and deadline in May 21.

The Shooter Extreme All Day Camp is set for 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 28-30. Free lunch is included. Cost is $70, and deadline is May 21.

The Basketball Day Camp for kids Kindergarten through eighth grade takes place from 9 a.m. to noon on June 9-13. Cost is $60, and deadline is May 21.

The Basketball All Day Camp is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 9-13. Breakfast and lunch is included, with campers needing to show up between 8 and 8:30 for breakfast. Cost is $100, and deadline is May 21.

The Little Swisher (beginners only) Camp for kids second-grade and younger will be 9:30-11:30 a.m. on June 16-18. Lunch is included. Cost is $40, and deadline is June 11.

The Shooter Extreme Mini-Camp is set for 1-3 p.m. on June 16-18. Cost is $40, and deadline is June 11.

Private summer workouts also are available with former Emporia High standout Bret Wise (343-5102).

Emporia Summer

Basketball League

Registration is now being taken for the Emporia Summer Basketball League, which will take place on Mondays through Thursdays during the month of July at Emporia High School.

The league is for boys and girls from Kindergarten through eighth grade. Organized area teams are encouraged to attend.

Teams will be set according to age group with a 10-game guarantee. Players might play two games in one night. The first meeting is July 3 for team organization.

Cost is $60, with a family rate of $20 for additional children. Deadline to enter is June 27.

Co-Ed Softball

Tournament

Northern Heights FBLA is sponsoring a co-ed softball tournament on Saturday at the Allen and Admire Ball Fields. Cost is $100.

TRYSA Soccer Summer Camp

TRYSA will be conducting a week-long summer soccer camp from June 9 through June 13. The camp will be run by Challenger British Soccer, with coaches coming from Britain to work with the kids.

The camp is open to boys and girls ages 3 through 14. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. for 3- to 4-year-olds, 10:30 a.m. to noon for 5- to 6-year-olds and 9 a.m. to noon or 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for 7- to 14-year-olds.

All campers receive a camp T-shirt and soccer ball. Those who register by Friday also will receive a British soccer jersey.

TRYSA also is looking for host families for the coaches. Host families receive a discount on their registration fee.

North Lyon County

Baseball Tournament

The North Lyon County recreation committee will host a baseball tournament on May 3.

Age 9-10 teams will play at Allen; 11-12 will play at Admire. The cost per team is $100.

Registration is limited to five teams in each division with a three-game guarantee.

USD 253 Spring Scramble

Golf Tourney

The second annual USD 253 Spring Scramble golf tournament has been scheduled for Saturday at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course. The tournament is held to raise funds for the Emporia High School Scholarship Fund, which raises money for scholar athletes, as well as for academic trips, such as a theater trip to New York City and a biology trip to Costa Rica.

The event will be a four-person scramble with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. An entry fee of $260 per team or $65 per person includes green fee, cart and lunch provided by Olpe Chicken House. Golfers who have annual passes to the municipal course will pay $46 per person.

Cash prizes ranging from $25 to $75 per person and polo shirts will be given to the top three teams in each flight. There also will be hole prizes, putting and chipping contests and door prizes. The tournament is limited to the first 36 teams.

Fastpitch Softball Skills Clinics

Two fastpitch softball skills clinics for girls will be held Saturday and May 3 at Whittier Park in Emporia. The clinics are for all girls in grades fourth through eighth.

The clinics will focus on fundamentals of hitting and fielding, with video review and analysis of hitting and competitive games to help improve skills.

The clinics will be split into two groups on both days. Grades 4-6 will meet from 1-3 p.m. both days, while grades 7-8 will meet from 3:30-5:30 p.m. both days.

The cost is $15 for both days. Register at the Emporia Recreation Center. For more information, call 340-6300.

Emporia Track Club Youth Meets

Two Emporia Track Club youth track and field meets are scheduled to be held at Emporia State’s Welch Stadium this spring.

The first meet will be on Tuesday, May 27, and the second will be on Tuesday, June 10.

The meets begin at 6 p.m., and no pre-registration is needed. Anyone can enter.

The meets are low-key and perfect for beginning track and field athletes.
