Newman Regional Health reported an operating loss for the month of March, the Board of Trustees learned during Wednesday’s meeting.
Newman posted an operating loss of $101,593, which is over the budged loss amount by $32,450. However, this is offset by a year-to-date income of $198,147. The hospital budgeted a loss of $445,890, which puts them $644,047 in the green.
Inpatient surgical cases at Newman continue to be lower than the budgeted number. In March, the hospital had planned on performing 95 in-patient surgeries. The hospital only ended up having 79. The patient days for the month exceeded the budget number by 55.
In other business, board members discussed the hospital’s audit report performed by Wendling, Noe & Nelson Johnson LLC out of Topeka. The summary letter stated that “nothing came to the attention” of the company that indicated the hospital was out of compliance with bonds and several other areas studied.
The Board of Trustees also approved a capital equipment purchase of $78,922 for two endoscopy video systems to replace the two older ones the hospital now has. The mobile camera systems are used by the surgeons and then OB/GYN physicians. The older systems were purchased in 2002 and cannot be repaired. The newer systems will provide for greater definition and image clarity during surgeries. The board approved the purchase.
