Sosa nets 4 goals in EHS's 10-0 win
Emporia High soccer defeats Highland Park

After recording a hat trick Monday night against Topeka West, Emporia High sophomore Jordan Sosa outdid herself Tuesday night by scoring four goals against Highland Park to help the EHS girls soccer team defeat the Lady Scots, 10-0.
Sosa scored all four of her goals in the first half, including the first three of the game to give her a hat trick just 7 minutes into the contest. Sosa scored goals in the fourth, fifth and seventh minutes to help EHS get out to a 3-0 lead, and after her sister, freshman Bailey Sosa, scored to make it 4-0, Jordan found the net once more in the 22nd minute to cap her scoring.
“I really hope she keeps on this roll of finding the net,” EHS coach John Decker said. “That’s been nice to see.”
Emporia High took a 6-0 lead into halftime after Jessica Decker scored on a penalty kick in the 30th minute to end the first-half scoring for the Lady Spartans.
Emporia High then ended the game less than 15 minutes into the second half thanks to the mercy rule, as EHS picked up another four goals.
Bailey Sosa cashed in on her second goal of the night in the 43rd minute to make it 7-0, and then Kylie White (45th minute), Jennifer Knickerbocker (47th minute) and Lauren Kitchens (55th minute) all found the back of the net for goals of their own to end the game.
“It’s good to see that we got quite a few girls in there for some goals,” Decker said. “We got a lot of kids playing time, and it was fun.”
Emporia (7-4) totaled a whopping 31 shots on goal, while defensively, the Lady Spartans did not allow Highland Park to even get off a single shot, let alone a shot on goal. EHS took 46 shots in all.
EHS will play its third game of the week on Friday when it travels to take on Shawnee Heights.
