Emporia State took six of the 10 possible MIAA Athlete of the Week awards, which were announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Keith Hernandez was the baseball Hitter of the Week, Miranda Campbell earned softball Hitter of the Week, Samantha Sheeley was named softball Pitcher of the Week, Jonel Rossbach won the women’s Track Athlete of the Week, Julian Rios is the men’s Tennis Player of the Week and Natalie Villaflor earned women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
This week, Hernandez hit a 10th-inning home run to help ESU beat Northwest Missouri State on Sunday, Campbell hit .444 to help ESU win six conference games, Sheeley went 4-0 with a 0.27 ERA, Rossbach broke the school record in both the 5,000-meter run and the 10K, Rios picked up two victories over higher-ranked players and Villaflor went 2-0 in both No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles with partner Marcela Bayon.
