The ninth annual Great U.S. 50 Yard sale will be May 16-18. The event, which was started in 2000, stretches across the nation along Highway 50.
Participation in the sale is open to all who want to participate, said Tom Taylor, coordinator for the event in North Vernon, Ind. Taylor said he expects the sale to be strong this year.
“With the current economic situation, many people are looking for bargains and many others are looking for extra money,” he said. “It is very much a win-win situation. Re-use is the purest form of recycling. Many of the items sold by individuals would otherwise end up in landfills.”
There is no registration and no fee to participate in the sale. However, sellers may not set up on state right-of-way not on private property without permission.
More information on the yard sale may be found by going to www.route50.com. Follow the yardsale link. Volunteers are needed to help post flyers. To obtain a form, e-mail totaylor@seidata.com.
