The Chase County baseball team continued its string of success with 12-6 and 7-5 victories over Lyndon on Friday.
In Game One, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead, scoring five in the first, third in the second and two in the third to build a 10-2 lead.
Individually, CCHS’s Brian Palermo and Lyndon’s Keene Niemack stole the show.
Palermo finished 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, five RBI and three runs scored.
Niemack, meanwhile, went 4-for-4 with two homers, a triple, three RBI and three runs.
The Bulldogs’ Cole Starkey picked up his first high school win, allowing four runs in four innings before being replaced with a comfortable 12-4 lead.
The win also marked Jay Talkington’s 300th victory as Chase County’s baseball coach.
Greg Davis added a 3-for-5 performance with two runs scored, while Starkey, John Lang, Nate Phipps and Chayne Onek each added two hits.
Chase County took the second game thanks to a dominating outing on the mound from Shawn Talkington.
The sophomore struck out 17 Lyndon batters in the seven-inning game, the most by a Bulldog pitcher since 2000.
Talkington won despite not getting much help from his defense. CCHS committed five errors and had four passed balls but still held on for the victory.
Talkington allowed five runs — none earned — and three hits in his complete-game effort. He also improved his record to 3-0.
Palermo went 3-for-3 in the nightcap, adding his third home run of the day to go along with three RBI and two runs scored.
Phipps went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Talkington and Davis contributed two hits apiece.
