Pool fund-raiser
The Americus Save the Pool committee will hold a Dash and Dine from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Presbyterian Church Annex in Americus. The cost is $6 for adults and $5 for children and seniors. The menu will be spaghetti, meatballs, salad, garlic bread and dessert. All proceeds will benefit the Americus City Pool. Birthday celebration
Betty Rathke will celebrate her 80th birthday from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 823 Merchant St.
Community supper
The annual Spring Mound Ridge Community Supper will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the school house. Participants are to bring a covered dish and table ware; beverages will be provided. For more information, call Shirley VanSickle at 342-0794.
Online school orientation
Insight School of Kansas, part of the nation’s largest network of online high schools, will hold an information session for parents and students from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Best Western Hospitality House, 3021 W. Highway 50. The school is a full-time, diploma granting, online high school that is tuition-free for Kansas residents in partnership with Spring Hill Unified School District. Greensburg documentary
A Greensburg tornado disaster documentary, “Greensburg,” will be shown at 7 p.m. May 4 on public television station Channel 11, one year from the day the tornado struck. Also, on May 4, President Bush is scheduled to deliver the high school graduation address in Greensburg. According to the news release, “In the film, producer, writer and director Brian Schodorf travels back to his native state of Kansas to document the destruction. The film crew talks with Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, FEMA, weather experts and the people of Greensburg who are now struggling to restore what is left of their lives.” The film’s exploration shows the “transformation of Greensburg, Kansas from disaster area to a town of pure hope.”
